Remember
the RadioShack
"Flyer-Side Chat" Articles? In 1948, Radio Shack was a
retail, industrial and mail-order business with just one store
in Boston. That year, a Marine Corps officer named Lewis Kornfeld signed on as advertising manager, beginning an odyssey
that would add merchandising, manufacturing and management to
his resume. While president of Radio Shack (1970-81), he
fathered the world's first mass-marketed PC, the TRS-80.
Kornfeld always thought it was
important to personally communicate with his (Radio Shack's)
customers. To accomplish this, in 1975 Kornfeld published
an announcement called the
President's Message that announced a series of articles he
planned to write. And from the late '70s to early '80s, Kornfeld wrote a column on the
SIDE of the Radio Shack sales FLYER, appropriately called the
"Flyer-Side Chat". Within this column, Kornfeld talked about
a wide range of topics. Was this the analog version of blogging?
Whatever you want to call it, it was nice that Kornfeld, a
man who was running the company, took the time to bridge the gap
between the corporate office, and communicate directly with the
customer.

"Flyer-Side Chat" articles in the Radio Shack History
Book, The "Miscellaneous" Album.
